PENHA

Familia Caracol is a sports-focused organisation based in Complexo da Penha in Rio’s North Zone. Severe storms and a military operation damaged the community’s football pitch, built after Brazil’s success at the 2014 Street Child World Cup, it was left out of use. Your donations provided the necessary funds to rebuild the facility, and we were delighted to see the pitch up and running.

OUR PARTNERS

At The Favela Foundation, we're committed to sustainability and growth, that's why, every year, we decided who will be our partners for the next 12 months.

Our partners receive financial support over the year to help grow their projects, reach more people in their community, and ensure their long-term survival.

In 2019, we are delighted to be continuing our partnerships with Instituto Wark and Tio Lino's.

OUR PARTNERS

INSTITUTO WARK

Instituto Wark is a street art project in Rocinha, Rio de Janeiro, that offers free art classes to young people in the community.

Marcos, project founder, is one of Brazil's premier street artist and his famous 'angel tag' can be seen all over Rio. He is delighted to giving his knowledge and skills back to the community that raised him.

COMUNIDADE

The Favela Foundation aims to build a community, or comunidade, of social and educational projects across Brazil's favelas, and each year supports outstanding projects doing amazing work on the ground.

Locally known as ‘Tio Lino’s’ after the project’s founder, Rocinha Mundo da Arte offers art classes and supplementary education to children in one of Rocinha’s most troubled neighbourhoods. We were delighted to fund two educational trips into Rio de Janeiro for the children in 2018, to Rio’s Botanical Gardens and the Museum of Tomorrow, where the children had a view into what their future might hold.

Alfazendo is an NGO based in City of God with a focus on social and environmental education. Founded with a focus on improving literacy levels, they have taught over 3,000 people to read and write and also run a range of social projects. In 2018, we were privileged to work with Alfazendo in launching a training for teachers across City of God, developing them so they’re equipped to effectively teach children from favelas.

RECICLAÇÃO

Reciclação is an environmentally focused NGO in Santa Teresa in Rio’s central zone. They’re educate on the importance of the environment and health and involve the community in keeping Morro dos Prazeres clean. We worked with Reciclação to transform an old dumping ground into a garden space, revitalising the area and helping to provide a safe and secure space for further environmental education.
